Text reads 'Disability Pride Month Book Club'. There the front cover to each of the following books: No Horn Unicorn by Dr Shani Dhanda, Poor Little Sick Girls by Iona Gamble, Dyslexia & Me by Onyinye Udokporo, Strong Female Character by Fern Brady and Easy Beauty A Memoir by Chloe Cooper Jones.

1. “No Horn Unicorn” By Dr Shani Dhanda.

Five stars out of five.

We love Dr. Shani and the No Horn Unicorn! This wholesome children’s book is a great introduction for kids to understand difference and disability!

2. “Strong Female Character” By Fern Brady.

Four stars out of five.

This is a memoir by one of the team’s favourite comedians and an earnest insight into the lived experience of an Autistic woman.

3. “Poor Little Sick Girls” By Ione Gamble.

Three stars out of five.

An unapologetic read, great for those new to the chronic pain community or seeking to understand the experiences of disabled women for the first time.

4. “Conversations with Friends” By Sally Rooney.

Four stars out of five.

As our fave Ayo Edebiri points out, we all need a fix of Irish people going through it. Conversations With Friends includes a raw portrayal of life with endometriosis. It’s a compelling fiction read with strong representation.’

Coming up

“Dyslexia & Me” by Onyinye Udokporo.

Those of you who saw Onyinye on Labels and Legacies know she is an amazing storyteller. With a recommendation from the amazing Marcia Brissett-Bailey, we’re confident this book will be full of learning.’

“Easy Beauty A Memoir” by Chloé Cooper Jones.

The team is looking forward to checking out Chloé Cooper Jones’s memoir, which covers themes of disability, motherhood, and beauty.
