Gill Porter

Study Skills Tutor (SpLD & AS)

Pronouns: she / her

Gill is a qualified SpLD and ASC Study Skills Tutor. She’s been tutoring since 2014, originally working face-to-face across universities in Leeds, but is now working online too with caseloads of undergraduate and postgraduate students from institutions across the UK. Before this she tutored in FE and, a very long time ago, worked in university international education.

She’s a member of the Dyslexia Guild and Association of Non-Medical Help Practitioners. She has a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education and Training,  PG Cert in Language, Literacies and Dyslexia and an MA in Disability Studies.

As someone with invisible conditions herself, her postgraduate study has also meant navigating the support mechanisms at university, giving her recent personal insight into what it’s like being a student accessing these.

In her spare time, some things she likes are: reading or looking at books with pictures in, art, photography, going to vintage fairs, seeing friends, watching too much tv, talking about disability rights. And, when symptoms allow, swimming, going for long walks and playing tennis. She has an allotment but mostly manages to grow weeds.
