Karen Mitchell
Study Skills Tutor (SpLD)
Pronouns: She/her
Although Karen studied Management Science and then IT at University in the 1990s, she stumbled into the world of inclusion by chance while working part-time as a reader/scribe in a local college. After learning about neurodiversity in a psychology lecture, she knew this would form the career path for her.
Supporting learners within the Community, FE and HE learning environments over her career, she is highly motivated by encouraging individuals to recognise their talents and achievements as well as finding the most suitable strategies for them to utilise in their learning. She is inspired by the individuality of everyone she meets and she recognises and embraces her own neurodiversity, often sharing her own experiences.
An avid rugby fan, she worked for a period developing inclusive rugby across Scotland and set up a team at her local club, which is still going strong! She can also still easily be persuaded to do the odd shift behind the bar at the club!
